How to hide your tattoos for special occasion

If you have a tattoo, you might go through the time you have to cover your tattoo at least once. That time would be your first interview for work or wedding ceremony. You might do not want to show your tattoo in any of your wedding picture because of societal or familial pressures or you want to look a little bit more gracefully. Having tattoo is not a shame. But, to be honest, as a Korean women, sometimes I need to hide my tattoo even though it is located on my ankle where people cannot tell easily I have tattoo. The best solution would be hiring a professional who can do a heavy makeup and how to use it for you. But If you want to try covering yourself,  I would like to introduce some products and tips for hiding tattoos for you.

Tattoo Concealer by Kat Von D

Kat Von D’s line at Sephora which features a “highly pigmented, transfer- and water-resistant, multitasking concealer” as its centerpiece.  The collection also includes a light-pink pencil aimed at counteracting the dark blues and blacks of some people’s tattoos.

For Ever Full Cover Extreme Camoflauge Cream by Make Up For Ever

Lastly, there’s a product full of coverage power called For Ever Full Cover Extreme Camoflauge Cream by Make Up For Ever.  A client has used this before for a tattoo on her chest during her wedding (she had chosen a strapless, sweetheart style neckline) and she reported back that this product completely concealed what otherwise would’ve looked like a half-gone rose tattoo.  Seems like the heaviest-duty of the three products spotlighted here but again, in-office testing will have to be a future endeavor!

Ben Nye Tattoo Cover

Ben Nye Tattoo Cover was designed for use by theater makeup professionals to cover tattoos or dark blemishes on stage actors. Try it for just $9 from the Stage and Theater Makeup store and see how it works for you before buying enough to cover a whole tattoo.

Tatjacket Premium Tattoo Concealer

Tatjacket Tattoo Concealer is a little bit expensive to try than some of its counterparts, but not outrageous. For around $25 on Amazon (including shipping), you can see if Tatjacket is the right product for you. Reviews indicate that it works well, but not for everyone. If it works as well as it claims to, then it will be well worth the money.

If you bought cosmetics that will effectively hide your tattoo, now it's time to use it. I found this incredibly amazing YouTube video for you. please watch this amazing process of hiding tattoo. And here are 3 steps how to apply makeup over a tattoo.

1. Starting by carefully cleansing your skin; this gives you a fresh palette for your makeup application. Begin the tattoo cover by gently blotting on a layer of the light-colored concealer using a makeup sponge or your fingertips until it looks smooth. Be careful not to rub in the makeup or you'll just be pushing around the product without getting good coverage. Using the blotting technique will also help you to conserve your makeup products, making them last longer. Let the concealer dry. Then, use your powder brush to apply a light layer of the translucent powder on top.
2. add a bit of the darker concealer to your light concealer, and mix the two together in the palm of one hand. Gently blot the blended mixture over the tattoo until smooth, then dust again with the translucent powder.
3. Keep layering the products, gradually adding more of the dark concealer. The number of layers you’ll need depends on your tattoo. Once your tattoo is sufficiently covered and blended into your skin, finish off your work with a light spritz of hairspray.

If you invest in a few good makeup products and use them efficiently, then you can keep your tattoo a secret without spending a lot of money for makeup artist to help you. Good luck!
